Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has opened the DICON Institute of Technology Kaduna. This launch marks a major step toward building domestic military manufacturing through technical education, research, and innovation.
Building Local Capacity in Defence Manufacturing
The Bello Matawalle DICON commissioning supports national goals for military self-reliance. As Nigeria's first statutory tertiary school focused on military tech, the Nigeria defence technology institute will train engineers and technicians. This workforce will build equipment locally and reduce dependence on foreign imports.
Solar Infrastructure and Institutional Growth
During the event, Matawalle also launched a new solar power system at the DICON headquarters in Kakuri. DICON Director-General Major General Babatunde Ibrahim Alaya credited the DICON Act 2023 for making these upgrades possible. The institute will use modern laboratories and industry partnerships to prepare students for the global defense market.
