The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched the pilot rollout of its Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker at the PTML Area Command. Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi announced that this initiative aims to automate internal administration, cut manual paperwork, and enhance operational efficiency across departments.
Centralized Internal Management and Port Reforms
The MIS platform acts as a single sign-on system for Customs personnel, centralizing administrative functions such as leave requests, duty rosters, file tracking, and internal staff orders. PTML Command was chosen for this pilot due to its track record with technological initiatives like the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), known as B’Odogwu. Under the leadership of Acting Controller Nura Miko, the command aims to leverage these digital upgrades to cut average clearance times for compliant roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) cargo from two hours to one hour.
Infrastructure Expansion at Tin Can Island
These technological upgrades complement ongoing infrastructure developments at the port. PTML Managing Director Ascanio Russo announced a $50 million investment project for the Lagos terminal. Planned in coordination with the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, this capital expansion will fund more cargo-handling equipment and expand berthing capacity within the Tin Can Island Port complex.
