NITDA, ITU, and DBI Partner to Expand Digital Skills Training Across Nigeria

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has entered into strategic discussions with the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to massively scale digital skills development across Nigeria.

The tripartite collaboration aims to bridge the digital divide and support national economic growth through targeted technological education.

Telecommunications regulators and federal policymakers frequently review these strategic digital inclusion initiatives at international technology events and capacity-building summits.

Expanding digital literacy and professional technology education across Nigeria

During a high-level courtesy visit to NITDA headquarters led by ITU Senior Digital Skills Officer Robin Fish, officials announced a historic global milestone: DBI has become the world’s first institution to hold both ITU Academy Training Centre (ATC) and Digital Transformation Centre (DTC) designations.

This dual accreditation enables DBI to deliver globally certified professional courses for engineers across Africa while extending free digital literacy programs to citizens in rural and underserved areas.

Expansions of national digital education infrastructure are regularly highlighted in international ICT and telecom news updates.

To operationalize the initiative, DBI proposed leveraging NITDA’s nationwide network of Digital Learning Centres to deploy the ITU-Cisco DTC programme at the grassroots level.

NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi welcomed the partnership, noting that it directly supports the Federal Government’s ambitious target of achieving 95% digital literacy by 2030.

Both parties have directed an immediate review of a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to solidify their joint commitment to national digital transformation and secure long-term technology jobs for Nigerian youth.
